What were Rome's Problems?
Some political and social problems they had was when the last Severan ruler died the Rome's government became very weak.For almost 50 years army leaders fought each other for the throne. During this time Rome had 22 different emperors. Many government officals took bribes.As problems increased, talented people refused to serve in the government.Others even stopped paying taxes.Fewer people attended school and large amount of empire people became slaves.Wealthy Romans supported slavery because it was a cheap way to get work done.As economy became to fall apart law and order broke down and also farmers grew less food and hunger began to spread.As economy worsened,people bought fewer goods.Many worker had to leave and work on the army.They soon began to exchange goods without using money.In the east Persia pushed into the empire's territory.As fighting increased the government could no longer pay for the soilders no more.
What changes did diocletian and Constantine make?
In 284 a general named Diocletian became emperor.To stop decline,he introduced political changes to make things better.Because the roman empire was too large Diocletian divided the empire into 4 parts.He named officials to rule these areas but kept authority over all.He also made up a rule stating that all worker remain at same job till they die. Diocletian's rule failed none of the people wanted to obey his rule and he did not have enough money to make them obey.In 305 Diocletian retired from office. After a period of conflict,another general became emperor his name was constantine he became emperor in 312.Constantine issued several orders the son of the workers had to follow their father's trades,the son of farmers had to work had to work on the land their father worked in,and the sons of soldiers had to serve in the Army too.Both diocletian and constantine failed to save the roman empire.When constantine died in 337,fighting broke again.A new emperor Theodosius finally ended fighting and gained control.Theodosius decided to divide the empire into two separate empires after his death in 395 and than the empire splitted into two separate places one was called northern empire and the other was eastern empire.
Who invaded Rome and why does it fall?
As Rome declined,it was no longer able to hold back the germanic tribes on it's boarders.many different Germanic groups existed-ostrogoth's visigoths,franks,vandals,angels,and Saxons.They came from the forest and northern Europe.These Germanic groups were in the search of warmer climate and better grazing land for their cattle. Many were fleeing form Huns,fierce warriors from Mongolia and Asia.The Huns entered the eastern Europe and defeated the ostrogoths.The visigoths,fearing that they would be next they told the eastern romans Emperor for protection.He let them settle just inside the empires boarders.In return they promised to be loyal to rome.The romans forced the visigoths to buy food at very high prices and the romans also kidnapped the visigoths to enslave them but the visigoths did not like this so they rebelled against the romans.They won and later on Rome was forced to surrender land to the visigoths.A 14 year old boy named Romulus Augustus after him no emperor ever ruled again and these made Rome fall because no was giving rules so they were doing whatever they wanted to.
What was Rome's Legacy?
Our world would be different if the Roman empire did not existed we would not have the alphabets letters we would not know how to communicate with each others.Many of our laws come from Rome and same as our knowledge of building.Also we would not know what religion Christianity is
